The Hebrew ‘or is light or flame, can be used of the sun, moon, stars, or lamps, as well as understanding, life, and glory.
One of the oddest uses of this word ‘or is of leviathan who leaves a wake of light?
Behind him he leaves a shining wake; one would think the deep to be hoary. Job 41:32
However, we will leave that one to the Creation Scientists to explain.
The Lord is My Light
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psa. 27:1
This is the light of enlightenment. It means a mystical seeing the light of truth rather than the physical light of the sun, candle, or lightbulb. This is the light that comes to one’s mind when one finds that the Lord is the encapsulation or all the knowledge that a person can ever access. We still call this “seeing the light.”
The inherited churches have almost left this light. It can still be seen flickering in some dark corner, but for the most part, it is ignored, soon it will may go out all together due to it lack of oil. For they no longer search the Scriptures. Without oil to burn there is no light on the path.
Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psa. 119:105
People wonder where they are to go next in life. They pray for guidance. However, the answers are in God’s Word. God’s will and plan for our lives is that we obey.
. . . but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. Deut. 5:10
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15
As long a we walk in obedience we cannot help but be in God’s will.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
