The LORD our Righteousness
“Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The LORD is our righteousness.’ Jer. 23:5 -6
The Hebrew verb tzedeq means what is right, just, normal; or rightness, and is used to describe honest weights and measures, and the vindication of the people cause resulting in victory.
The entire passage is about the Lord gathering His people, who have been scattered by false teachers, who did not care for them. He will return them to His sheltered fold where they will be fed and cared for, lacking for nothing.
The only one who can do all this is the Branch. He seeks us until we find Him. Then He imbues His righteousness on us. For there is none righteous. We must stand in His righteousness, for His weights and true and just.
